Nine Keys To Creating An Environment For You To Thrive

Stress is the ‘wear and tear’ our bodies experience as we adjust to our continually changing environment; it has physical and emotional effects on us and can create positive or negative feelings. As a positive influence, stress can help compel us to action; it can result in a new awareness and enthusiasm. As a negative influence, it can result in feelings of distrust, rejection, anger, and depression. In adjusting to different circumstances, stress will help or hinder us depending on how we choose to deal with it. There are many ways to manage unhealthy stress in your life, and it is important to understand what works best for you.

NINE points to consider for a balanced healthy lifestyle:

1) Manage your time:
• make realistic commitments that will line you up for success

2) Take a moment to breath:
• when you feel the pressure mounting, allow yourself to draw in a deep breath and exhale completely

3) Connect with others:
• develop emotional bonds

4) Take care of your body:
• be mindful of the amount of sleep you get, eat healthy for your body, drink water, consider reducing the intake of things which do not work well with your body (sugars, alcohol, overeating)

5) Build your physical reserves:
• get physical and move (walk, garden, dance)

6) Know your limits:
• learn to moderate your reactions to stress

7) Consider the price of conflict:
• Must you always be right?
• consider collaboration rather than confrontation

8) Laugh:
• find the fun route while maintaining integrity

9) Think positively:
• in the present tense and feel its effect

You are your greatest ally when navigating the stressors in your life!
